We are delighted to present a new and exciting addition to our roster—pianist Weiyin Chen. A virtuosic young pianist to whom “the music” matters more than anything else, Ms. Chen's musicality and commitment are what immediately consume the listener, and her virtuosity is but one of the necessary components of this breadth of talent. A winner of Princess Cecilia di Medici's La Gesse Foundation Fellowship and a prizewinner of the Sorantin International Young Artists Award, Ms. Chen has already built a most substantial reputation in Asia, and has had many important appearances in Europe and the United States. Most recent highlights include concerto engagements with the Orquesta Sinfónica Millennium in Spain, the Hong Kong Philharmonic, the National Symphony Orchestra in Taipei; the China National Symphony Orchestra in Beijing; the Kaohsiung City Symphony Orchestra in Taiwan; and Taiwan’s Evergreen Symphony Orchestra with whom she has repeatedly performed. Her solo appearances include recitals throughout the Western Europe, South America and United States, including New York's Alice Tully Hall, Merkin Hall and the Juilliard Theater. Ms. Chen's performances have been televised nationally in Taiwan, China and in the United States; and broadcasted on WQXR's Young Artists Showcase, WQXR's Reflections from the Keyboard hosted by David Dubal, and NPR's Performance Today and From the Top, the latter of which earned her the Audience Choice Award. A passionate chamber musician, Ms. Chen has performed and participated in numerous prestigious festivals including La Jolla SummerFest in California, Verbier Festival&Academy in Switzerland, Festspiele Mecklenburg-Vorpommern in Germany, Sarasota Music Festival in Florida, Chamber Music Workshop at the Perlman Music Program, and Chamber Music Residency at the Banff Centre in Canada. Her Asian festival appearances include the Shanghai International Music Festival and the Taipei International Music Festival. Ms. Chen's global collaborations include conductors Edo DeWaart, Vladimir Kulenovic, Xin-Cao Li, Ya Hui Wang; renowned violinists Cho-Liang Lin, Ilya Gringolts, David Chan, Alina Pogostkina; violist Paul Neubauer; and cellists Gary Hoffman and Felix Fan. A graduate of the prestigeous Peabody Institute of the Johns Hopkins University and The Juilliard School where she also attended the Pre-College Division, Ms. Chen studied piano under Oxana Yablonskaya, Herbert Stessin and the pre-emminent pianist and conductor Leon Fleisher and coached in chamber music by Jerome Lowenthal and Joseph Kalichstein. She also performed in Master Classes with such luminaries as Jean-Yves Thibaudet, Claude Frank, Gary Graffman, Dmitri Bashkirov and Hiroko Nakamura; in addition to summer chamber programs with Itzhak Perlman, and Donald and Vivian Weilerstein. |
